2012. Rozome (Japanese wax resist silk painting). Silk, natural dyes, mordants, wood, tung oil, LED lights. 100 cm diameter × 60 cm tall.
A Sweetness of Bees has three layers of painted silk in wooden frames. The top layer shows the fruits and the fibres that we harvest because of bees (apples, cashews, cotton, tea, Brazil nuts, and eggplant). The middle layer shows the six flowers that the bees need to survive, and which they pollinate. The bottom layer depicts the different bees needed to pollinate the flowers to give us the fruits. The viewer must walk around the art, peering through all three layers to see the interconnected layers.
